Duration of Temporary By-laws
Duration of Temporary By-laws
Vancouver City Council updated its 2010 Winter Games By-law on December 3, 2009 to clarify and confirm that the by-law’s provisions respect the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the right to protest. The new by-law includes clarification for the regulation of commercial activities, specifies a time frame for these temporary Games related measures and protects freedom of political expression including the right to criticize the Games.
The goal of the new by-laws will create a Games-time regulatory structure that will facilitate Games operations and activities to help create a safe and welcoming environment for visitors and residents, protect freedom of political expression, including expression critical of Games, and minimize littering, graffiti and commercialization of public spaces through illegal commercial advertising.
