Deliveries and large vehicles
Goods movement, deliveries and large vehicle movement
Goods movement and deliveries will be integral to the overall success of the 2010 Winter Games experience. For this reason, the City of Vancouver is looking at a variety of ways to minimize the impact any temporary road closures and restrictions will have on goods and large vehicle movement during Games time.
The Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit
and Transport Canada
are finalizing interim plans to restrict the transportation of dangerous goods in downtown Vancouver and near venues. More details available here
.
Protocols will be in place at Olympic & Paralympic venues and select adjacent businesses. Click here

Goods movement and deliveries to Downtown
While local businesses will be able to make and receive deliveries in downtown Vancouver 24 hours a day, 7 days a week between February 1 to 28, 2010, we strongly encourage flexibility in timing your deliveries. In order to avoid congestion and traffic, the City recommends that all deliveries be planned between 12 midnight and 6 am. If you are unable to make or receive deliveries before 6 am, the next preferred delivery window is before noon.
Parking and loading zones will be temporarily removed from certain streets in downtown Vancouver. Businesses should review the Host City Transportation Plan online map to determine if their existing loading zones will be impacted. If an existing loading zone is indeed impacted, businesses are encouraged to look for alternate drop off/load zones in parkades or lanes.
Businesses should start making necessary arrangements now with their shippers and clients to deliver and/or receive goods before 6 am and confirm the loading/drop off area for their business or clients.
The City has made temporary revisions to its Noise Control By-law* to ensure that businesses can continue their regular operations as much as possible during the Games period:
* Note: the temporary changes to the Noise Control By-law do not apply to regular construction work during the Games period. Site-specific noise by-law exemptions are required. For more information contact the Licenses & Inspections group.

Temporary 2010 truck routes
To account for the temporary road closures associated with the Olympic Transportation Plan, the City has established the following temporary truck routes to facilitate goods and large vehicle movement during the Winter Games. These routes will be in effect from February 1 to March 21, 2010.
- Hastings Street: Main to Burrard
- Nelson Street: Burrard to Cambie Bridge
- Smithe Street: Cambie Bridge to Burrard
[NEW] Granville Routes
- Granville Bridge
- Granville Street from Broadway to the Granville Bridge
- Seymour Street from the Seymour Street off ramp of the Granville Bridge to Nelson Street
- Howe Street from Nelson Street to the Howe Street on ramp of the Granville Bridge
NOTE: The Granville Bridge has a weight load limit of 27,000 kg, so these routes are restricted to straight trucks and buses. The City Engineer considers it necessary to designate these temporary truck routes in order to provide alternate routes for essential transportation of people, goods and services by means of trucks and buses to support the 2010 Winter Games.
