Celebrate the Spirit
During the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the City of Vancouver and the Government of Canada – along with our partners, sponsors and local businesses – will host two exciting outdoor celebration sites in downtown Vancouver where you’ll find the best in local, Canadian and international entertainment, big-screen Olympic highlights, sponsor pavilions and much more – for free. The LiveCity sites have won a Sustainability Star for initiatives including using rubber tiles made from recycled tires for ground covering instead of asphalt, composting food, paper and service ware, funding infrastructure to access the Hydro electricity grid instead of using diesel generators and repurposing 1200 ft of fencing in partnership with women’s sewing co-operative.
The Sustainability Star represents the telling of a story and about a product, service or initiative that represents a new solution to local and global sustainability challenges. All recipients are judged by a Sustainability Star Jury, comprised of VANOC partners, sponsors, external representatives and VANOC representatives for eligibility. Click here for more information.
